Two reasons why every man needs a custom-made suit

by Genesis Fuller

Every man should have at least one custom-made suit in his wardrobe. Here are two reasons why.

Men's custom-made suits can last a lifetime

A suit that a man has custom-made for him could potentially last him his whole life, provided he takes care of it. There are many reasons why suits of this kind have such a long lifespan. Firstly, they are rarely made with cheap fabric, such as polyester. If a man is going to splurge on having a suit made for himself, he will usually opt for the highest-quality suit fabric he can afford (such as silk or tweed). Any garment made of high-quality fabric is likely to outlast one made of its synthetic, cheaper counterpart.

Secondly, a custom-made suit will be made so that it perfectly fits a man's unique body measurements. This not only means that these suits are ultra-flattering but also that they last longer than off-the-rack suits. For example, if a man wears an off-the-rack suit whose trousers fit his waist nicely, and whose leg length is right for his height, but which is just a tad too tight in the inner leg region, he won't be able to go up a size without compromising the fit of the trousers' waist and leg length.

In this situation, he would have to put up with this tightness in the inner leg, and the inevitable friction that this section of the trousers would be subjected to as a result of this tightness. This friction would soon result in the wearing out of the trousers' inner leg area. In contrast, a custom-made suit will fit every single part of a man's physique perfectly, with no tightness or friction in any section of it, and so he will not experience the type of premature wearing out of the suit fabric that he would if he wore an off-the-rack version of this outfit.

The cost-per-wear is low

Many men hesitate to order themselves custom-made suits because of the costs that are involved. However, men who make this investment are often surprised at how low the cost-per-wear of their well-made suit turns out to be. This is due not only to the aforementioned long lifespan of a suit like this but is also the result of its versatility.

A man can wear a neutral-coloured custom-made suit to a whole host of events over the course of his life, including cocktail parties, anniversaries, business meetings, interviews, nights out in high-end restaurants as well as at weddings at which they are a guest. They can add variety to the suit's appearance by changing out their tie or bowtie, their cufflinks, their shirts and decorative handkerchiefs for their suit jacket's pocket. Over the course of the many years that a man keeps and utilises this suit, they will probably find that its cost-per-wear is similar to or maybe even lower than an off-the-rack, polyester suit that starts to look worn after just a few wears.
